The Cheese School of San Francisco

The Cheese School of San Francisco has been instrumental in helping the Guild become established. In addition to volunteering time and resources, The Cheese School often co-sponsors incoming speakers, offers us expert advice and, most graciously, gives us a location for our annual Guild Fundraiser in October each year.

Additional Support

We are supported by a number of other businesses, academies, organizations and individuals. These entities see the value in keeping an ancient craft alive, in perpetuating amazing flavors unique to our region and in preserving open space in a densely populated state. They’ve shown this appreciation by pledging their financial or in-kind support or by forming integral partnerships with our Guild:

California Artisan Cheese Festival

The California Artisan Cheese Festival, which takes place each March at the Sheraton Sonoma County, is a wonderful way for people to meet the cheeses of our state. A portion of revenue generated from the festival goes back to support our Guild, which is much appreciated.

Dairy Research Facility at UC Davis

The U.C. Davis Dairy Teaching and Research Facility at the University of California at Davis is a great asset to our Guild. We appreciate having these professional facilities close at hand as well as benefit from collaborations with UCD DRF professors.

Dairy Products Technology Center at Cal Poly (San Luis Obispo)

The skilled academics at Cal Poly have long been a resource to our Guild. From collaborating on shared educational initiatives to having each other as a resource for referrals, Cal Poly helps to fortify the existing CA cheesemaking community as well as to generate a future generation of cheesemakers.

American Cheese Society

The American Cheese Society is a national organization that supports cheesemakers and the cheese industry. Many of our members are also members of ACS and have volunteered or worked with the organization in some capacity. In 2014, we were honored to host ACS’s annual conference here in our state. Also, one of our cheesemaker members, Peggy Smith of Cowgirl Creamery, is the current ACS president.

Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT)

Our work to support the craft of cheesemaker would be pointless with out the sister effort of preserving agricultural lands. Several of our cheesemaker members graze their dairy herds on land preserved through the hard work of MALT.
