Department Mission:
The cheese monger team at both cheese counters at Market Hall Foods works closely with all team members. Every employee should learn every aspect of running the cheese counter for maximum support and flexibility within the team. We sell cheese while always keeping the cheese makers intentions in mind. We handle the product with the utmost respect for the land, the animals, the producers, and the consumers. Customer service is our strength.
Job Description: Tasks, Responsibilities and Qualifications
Tasks of the Job:
- Work with entire team to complete daily tasks: cleaning all surfaces in department and cheese walk in downstairs, keep up with production of pre-cut selections, make sure displays are well stocked and that all cheeses are out for sale, fulfill Local Online, E-Commerce and Catering orders, make sure every cheese has a proper sign with the correct price
- Receiving and Handling products: taking and logging temperature checks of refrigeration and product on assigned schedule, practice proper FIFO procedures, reviewing invoices with buyer upon receiving products
- Sales: assist customers with selection, portions, budgets, party planning, platter idea’s, recipe development, actively support in-store promotions, help build beautiful and dynamic displays of cheese, speak with other departments about cross merchandising efforts
- Customer Service: quickly helping customers shop and getting everything that they ask for, cashiering when needed to expedite service (anywhere in the store), answer customer questions on phone, going above and beyond to help our customers feel great about shopping with us.
- Learning and Continued Education: read newsletters and educational material that is sent to your email, taste and share your enthusiasm for cheese with our customers and everyone around you, ask questions if you do not know something, be patient in your learning.
Skills of the Job:
- Cheese experience is great, but not a necessity. We are willing to train the right person.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain healthy working relationships with co-workers and customers.
- Ability to complete daily tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to multi-task is a must behind our cheese counter.
Physical Requirements of the Job:
- Continuous standing and walking
- Lifting up to 50 pounds
- Use of various types of equipment: cheese grater, cheese wire, deep cleaning refrigeration, meat slicers
- Bending, lifting, climbing, reaching
- Can be in extreme temperature changes for extended periods of time: 40° walk-in to no air conditioning in store
